Most of the time when we think of or exercise giving thanks, we think of things we have or have experienced that we are thankful for. But possession and experiences alone are not enough. We must recognize the source of where those blessings come from and what their purpose is.
The greatest blessing of Thanksgiving is to think of and give thanks for the object — the source for why we give thanks.
The nature of Thanksgiving includes 5 active things we are to be doing corporately (1 Chron. 16:13-22):
++Give thanks for the LORD publically
++Sing/give praise to the LORD continually
++Glory/be glad in the LORD publically
++Investigate the LORD’s strength
++Discover the LORD’s face
The People of Thanksgiving (1 Chron. 16:13-22)
++God’s Precepts are Unavoidable
++God’s Promise is Everlasting
++God’s Protection is Unconquerable/unbeatable
The Nations of Thanksgiving (1 Chron. 16:23-29)
++Declare the LORD together (1 Chron. 16:23-24)
++Elevate the LORD together (1 Chron. 16:25-27)
++Respond to the LORD together (1 Chron. 16:28-29)
Did we, with family and friends this past Thursday, gather together and reflect as “the nations,” as a people of God, the very heart and nature of Thanksgiving?
God is the glorious Object of all Thanksgiving.
God is...
